LOCK HAVEN — The Clinton County Board of Commissioners shined a spotlight on area Emergency Medical Services (EMS).

During its voting session, the board unanimously approved a proclamation for National Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week which runs from May 18 to 25.

The proclamation, read by Commissioner Angela Harding, highlighted the importance of EMS, which provides life saving care to those in need 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

“Emergency Medical Services has grown to fill the gap, becoming the national healthcare safety net, by providing important, out-of-hospital care including preventative medicine, follow up care and access to telemedicine,” the proclamation reads.

The EMS system consists of a wide range of providers including emergency medical responders, emergency medical technicians, advanced emergency medical technicians, paramedics, pre-hospital registered nurses, pre-hospital physician extenders, pre-hospital physicians, dispatchers, firefighters, police officers, educators, administrators, trained members of the public and other out-of-hospital medical care providers.

“It is appropriate to highlight the value and the accomplishments of emergency medical services providers by designating EMS week,” the proclamation read.

The board heard from Kim Shainline, a paramedic and chief of Goodwill Hose Company Ambulance Association.

Shainline thanked the commissioners for honoring EMS personnel with the proclamation.

She noted Goodwill Hose is one of 16 ambulance/EMS services in the county.

“We are thankful for the recognition from the county and also nationwide. This is a nationwide week for emergency services where we celebrate all of our professionals — volunteer and paid,” she said.

Shainline said the county’s service providers include three advanced life support companies, three basic life support companies — based in Kettle Creek, Beech Creek and Bucktail Medical Center — along with 10 quick response services that are tied to fire companies.

“So we want to say thank you for your recognition and thank you to all of our providers in the county that serve our communities,” Shainline concluded.
