Centre encourages public to join authorities, boards and commissions
BELLEFONTE — Centre County commissioners approved a series of appointments, reappointments and term expirations for various authorities, boards and commissions at their final meeting of 2025.
With several seats vacant or soon to be vacated, the commissioners called on residents to consider becoming involved in advisory bodies overseen by the county.
“We would urge any citizens who either have knowledge or are passionate — or preferably both — about any one of the couple dozen authorities, boards and commissions that Centre County government supervises (to express their interest),” Commissioner Mark Higgins said.
Though actions were limited to county-level authorities, boards and commissions, Higgins noted that many advisory committees operated by municipalities throughout Centre County are also seeking participation.

Commissioners thanked those whose terms are ending, as well as individuals who agreed to serve again or take on new roles.
“We’d like to thank all these individuals for their service, for agreeing to serve again or for serving for the first time,” said Higgins.
“If any citizens are interested, we do have probably a couple hundred positions at the county, and a very large fraction of a thousand different open advisory positions for the 35 municipalities and their affiliated water and sewer authorities,” he reiterated.
Regarding the MH/ID/EI-D&A Advisory Board, which had a number of term expirations, Commissioner Amber Concepcion said the county is seeking individuals with professional or personal experience in mental health, intellectual disability or early intervention.
She noted that several members whose terms are expiring are practicing psychologists, creating a need for additional practitioners to help fill those roles.
In other business, commissioners:
— Approved a proposal with Pracademic Partners to conduct an independent efficiency assessment of the county’s Elections and Voter Registration Department. The contract totals $15,000 for 2026.
— Approved Children and Youth Services’ fourth-quarter report for the 2025-26 fiscal year. The report, which outlines expenditures and clients served, is submitted to the state.
— Approved a lease renewal agreement with Service Access Management Inc. for space in the Community Services Building, 502 E. Howard St., Bellefonte. The organization assists counties with human services operations. When SAM initially moved into the building, it operated under a three-month lease to allow time to acclimate and determine its share of security and cleaning costs. The monthly rate for 2026 is $1,690.
— Approved the consent agenda and check run.
— Reminded the public that Centre County government offices will be closed Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026, in observance of the New Year.
