Local firefighters kept busy with two morning blazes in county

ASHTON PETERS/FOR THE EXPRESS Multiple crews from Clinton and Lycoming counties responded to the structure fire that occurred at 48 Crist Lane, Lot 72, Woodward Township. This was the second structure fire to occur Tuesday morning, with the first in Pine Creek Township.

LOCK HAVEN — Firefighters across Clinton County and the region were kept busy on Tuesday morning, responding to two separate structure fires.

Crews battled heavy fire conditions in Pine Creek and Woodward townships while working in extremely cold conditions.

The first fire was called in at about 5:20 a.m. at 2339 River Road in the South Avis area of Pine Creek Township.

According to reports, crews reported a two-story dwelling fully engulfed, with flames showing. A second alarm was called due to the fire’s intensity.

As crews worked to knock down the blaze, Windecker buses were requested to provide warming shelters, with several local businesses also providing food and drinks to the volunteers. Donors included McDonald’s in McElhattan, Onvo truck stop and the Avis and Dunnstown Minit Marts.

Crews reported the fire knocked out at 9:21 a.m. with two fill sites established to support fire suppression efforts, according to reports.

No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Crews responding to the fire included fire companies in Mill Hall, Dunnstown, Lock Haven Citizens Hose), Avis, Wayne Township, Lamar Township and Eastside fire along with Lycoming County crews including Independent Hose of Jersey Shore, Nippenose Valley, Waterville, Antes Fort and Clinton County Emergency Management.

While crews were still actively taking out the fire along River Road, another structure fire was called out along Crist Lane in Woodward Township.

The call was placed at 8:07 a.m. at 48 Crist Lane, Old Lot 72.

According to reports, when crews arrived on scene they reported a trailer fully engulfed in flames, with a vehicle nearby also involved.

Due to the nature of the blaze, some fire companies at the Pine Creek Township fire were reassigned to the new one and prompted a second alarm.

Two occupants were able to escape the fire and were transported to UPMC Lock Haven’s emergency room for smoke inhalation, reports state.

While crews fought the fire, Woodward Avenue was temporarily closed due to hose lines deployed across the roadway.

PennDOT was requested to assist with traffic control.

The incident was made available at approximately 9:31 a.m.

Beyond reports of smoke inhalation by the occupants, no other injuries were reported.

Crews that reported to the fire included fire companies from Castanea, Dunnstown, Citizens Hose of Lock Haven, Flemington Goodwill Hose, Beech Creek/Blanchard, Woolrich, Nittany Valley, East Side, Lock Haven EMS with Lycoming County crews from Citizen’s Hose of Larry’s Creek and Clinton County EMA assisting.
