In the Parks
Various local parks will offer programs that folks may be interested in attending. All children must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate. The programs may be modified or cancelled in the event of severe weather or community guidelines.
Black Bears Virtually
HOWARD — Learn more about the American Black Bear in a virtual program offered by Bald Eagle State Park on Jan. 7, 2026. Join the park naturalist every Wednesday in January to learn about the natural world! Programs will occur virtually on Microsoft Teams. Pre-registration is required on the DCNR Calendar of Events. The program link will be sent in a confirmation email following registration.
The virtual program will run from 12-12:30 p.m. and will cover bear behavior, ecology and habitat in Pa.
Little Naturalists Program
HOWARD — Join the park naturalist at Bald Eagle State Park on Wednesday, Jan. 14, from 10-11:30 a.m., for a self-led, open-ELC program for calm, indoor activities designed specifically for young children (ages six months–five years). Little ones will be free to explore conventional toys, games, crafts and natural objects at their own pace. Crafts, puzzles, coloring, nature related educational materials will also be available for older siblings/adults.
The Little Naturalists Program will also be held on Wednesday, Jan. 28, from 10-11:30 a.m.
Monarch Butterflies

HOWARD — Learn more about the Monarch Butterfly in a virtual program offered by Bald Eagle State Park on Jan. 14, 2026. Join the park naturalist every Wednesday in January to learn about the natural world! Programs will occur virtually on Microsoft Teams. Pre-registration is required on the DCNR Calendar of Events. The program link will be sent in a confirmation email following registration. The virtual program will run from 12-12:30 p.m. and will cover the lifecycle, conservation and ecology of the Monarch butterfly! We will also briefly discuss raising butterflies at home and participating in Project MonarchWatch.
