Officials evaluate sinkhole near Centre prison

BELLEFONTE — Centre County officials are continuing to evaluate a sinkhole which opened up near its correctional facility early last week. Chief Administrator John Franek told the county’s board of commissioners this week that a consultant engineer is working with officials for the overall evaluation of the sinkhole, which formed on July 21 near the entryway to the prison. “We’ve reached out to multiple excavation companies on hourly rates. Once we’ve identified a good price for that work we intend to start doing some exploratory digging,” Franek said on Tuesday morning. ...

LOCK HAVEN — The final of three meet and greets for candidates who applied for the vacant Lock Haven City Manager position has been cancelled. The meet and greet was slated for Thursday night in council chambers. LEMONT — The Lemont Village Green is the site of a free concert each Friday evening. On July 31, the concert will feature The John Wise Band playing piano-based classic rock and pop. John and his friends will share the music of Billy Joel, Carole King, Stevie Wonder, Chicago, Electric Light Orchestra and others in a brand-new show for 2026.
