Fire engulfs garage near Monument

MONUMENT — Firefighters from across Clinton and Centre counties converged on Liberty Township Thursday evening after a garage caught fire along Monument Orviston Road.

The fire was reported around 5:25 p.m. at 2024 Monument Orviston Road, roughly a mile and a half down the mountain from the village of Monument.

First responders arriving on scene described the structure fire as “well involved,” prompting a multi-company response. Firefighters from Beech Creek, Howard, Flemington, Milesburg, Mill Hall, Walker Township and Citizens Hose Company No.5 in Lock Haven were involved in the emergency response.

As crews worked to contain the blaze, Monument Orviston Road was closed at Saw Mill Road to through traffic toward Monument and Orviston to allow emergency vehicles access to the scene.

The main body of visible fire was suppressed within two hours of the initial call, according to Flash & Sirens of Clinton County, a local fire wire.

No injuries were immediately reported, and the cause of the fire was not publicly known as of Friday.
