Power of prayer

Rev. Joyce Bucknor

Prayer — Have you ever said, “I’ll pray for you.” Or better yet, has someone told you the same thing?

At one time this expression was common when hearing of the passing of a loved one, sickness in the family or a hardship that affected our daily lives. Praying, may or may not be in our natural response to a concern but the power of prayer definitely has touched our lives.

We all have that one person that knows that power. That relative that prays before meals, thanks God for your safety, and looks at the sunset and says, “isn’t God a wonderful creator?”

You know, the one who sees potentiality good in you no matter what you have done. The one that is at church to help in whatever capacity that Body of Christ needs.

This person has such confidence in their prayers, that no matter what you need, they know God, their Father God will take care of it. They believe what His love letter, the Bible, said about God answering prayer. 1 John 1:14 says, “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.” They know that God meant what He said and His Word is forever settled in heaven.

So the next time you have a very challenging situation and the world seems to be falling apart, find that person and ask them to pray. But even better yet, become one of them yourself.

Start seeing the world through God’s eyes, believing that He can handle any situation and start relying on the power of prayer. Ask for God’s help, recognizing that you are not capable of solving the problems. Then accept His gift that wipes away anything you have done in the pass that you know was wrong. Jesus, through the cross, paid the price for all of it. Just believe it and receive it, then walk in His guidance and love.
