Justified Quartet at Beech Creek Wesleyan
BEECH CREEK — Beech Creek Wesleyan Church will host Justified Quartet in concert on Saturday evening, May 17, at 6 p.m.
Justified Quartet, from Flint, Mich. are ministers to praise God and offer encouragement through Southern Gospel Music. The concert is free. An offering will be received for Justified Quartet.
Beech Creek Wesleyan is located at 217 Main St., Beech Creek.
Helping Hands
McELHATTAN — The Pathway to Christ Church is excited and proud to announce the onset of another great project as they take on assisting the Evangelical Lutheran Church with their “Helping Hands” mission.
Congregation members will be collecting items such as toilet paper, paper towels, toothpaste, cleaning products, laundry detergent, dental care, trash bags, hair care items, body and hand soap, dish detergent and more.
The collections will end in June and will be delivered to the Evangelical Lutheran Church. If someone is unable to go out to shop for items to donate, the church will gladly accept monetary donations to do the shopping for you.
Hot Dog Sale Fundraiser
WOOLRICH — Woolrich Community Church will hold a hot dog sale fundraiser from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, at 525 Park Avenue in Woolrich during the Woolrich Community Yard Sales. The proceeds collected will be given to the family of Skye Breon, a local young girl battling cancer.
Memorial Service
HOWARD — Memorial services will be held at the Fairview Cemetery on Sunday, May 18, beginning at 2 p.m. Pastor Dave Etters will be the speaker for the memorial service.
Fairview Church (and the adjoining cemetery) is located at the intersection of Fairview Road, Bullit Run Road and Curtin Hollow in Boggs Township, rural Howard.
Bible Study
LOCK HAVEN — God’s Eternal Life Church at 30 Woodward Ave., Lock Haven, is holding weekly Bible studies each Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. The topic will be Thru the Bible Word for Word. Turkey Supper
SUGAR VALLEY — Sugar Valley Church of the Brethren will hold a Take-out Only Turkey Supper on May 17 from 4-6 p.m., or until sold out. The meal will feature roasted turkey, filling, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, corn, cranberry sauce, rolls and homemade desserts. The cost will be a donation of your choosing. Memorial Picnic
BASTRESS — Immaculate Conception Parish, along Jacks Hollow Road off Route 654 in Bastress, will hold its annual country style ham and turkey dinner on Sunday, May 18, from noon to 6 p.m. The meal will consist of ham and turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, corn, noodles, salad, bread and dessert. The cost is $13 per meal for adults, $6 per meal for children ages 4-12. Children under four are free. Takeout meals are available after 1 p.m. Takeout meals are $13 per meal. In addition to the dinner, sandwiches, french-fries, funnel cakes, sandwiches, ice cream/milkshakes and soda are available on the grounds, as well as a few small games of chance and Bingo, too. Grief Support
LOCK HAVEN — Community Grief Support is a new opportunity for men and women to gather and seek help together. The next meeting will be on May 27. The group will meet the second and fourth Tuesday of the month from 6-7 p.m. in the lounge of Covenant United Methodist Church, 44-46 W. Main St., Lock Haven.
The support group is free, confidential and open to anyone. There is no work book to follow and no end date. It is designed to become an established, long-term program.
Sharon Gensib and Pamela Brauchli are the facilitators. They will open each session but the discussion will go where the group takes it.
Yard Sale
ANTES FORT — Antes Fort Methodist Church, at the corner of Fourth and Main in Antes Fort, will be holding a yard sale on Saturday, May 31, beginning at 7 a.m.
“Smarter Parents, Safer Kids” free program
SNYDERTOWN — If you are a parent, guardian or anyone who works with children under 18 and are looking to improve your child communication skills and learn ways to prevent child sexual abuse, Centre County Youth Service Bureau and Centre Safe are leading the “Smarter Parents, Safer Kids” workshop on May 29 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 850 Snydertown Road, Howard.
The two-hour workshop is free and begins at 5:30 p.m. Pizza will be provided.
During the workshop you will learn about building better communication with your youth and how to talk to them about sexual and personal boundaries; new skills and techniques to prevent child sexual abuse such as vetting babysitters, safety planning and more; and how to address suspicions and disclosures of sexual abuse.

Prayer Shawl Ministry Meeting
MILL HALL — Bald Eagle United Presbyterian Church will hold their monthly Prayer Shawl Ministry meeting on June 4 beginning at noon. The public is invited to come to the church to see all of the beautifully handcrafted items that the PSM needleworkers have produced over the last month. More needleworkers, those who crochet or knit, are invited to join the PSM group.
Lunch is provided. Donations of yarn and money are needed and accepted at the church for the needleworkers to continue their talent of creating beautiful pieces that are then donated to those in need.
The Prayer Shawl Ministry has a quilt that is being offered to the highest sealed bidder at the June meeting. The quilt was made by Joyce Busch, of Newmanstown. The quilt is also going to be on display at The Express for several days (May 12-May 22) for folks to stop in and see it there. If you’re interested in placing a sealed bid, envelopes will be provided at The Express. Or, you can call Pastor Susan at 570-726-4112 to have her place your bid in a sealed envelope that will then be opened on June 4. The winner will be contacted immediately and arrangements for picking up the quilt can be scheduled.
