CMHS Graduation

It’s that time of year again, it is almost summer and we will be sending the seniors off to pursue their dreams and possibly further their education at college. Graduation is one of those touchy subjects. It is a happy time because you have made it through the four long years at high school, but it is also an upsetting time because you are starting your life and are leaving some of your friends behind.

We interviewed five seniors to see how they felt about this chapter ending and what plans they have for the future.

Seniors Selica Dershem, Dylan Carlson, and Derek Lucas are all attending Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Selica is majoring in Criminology and plans to work in the field of forensic pathology. Dylan is majoring in Public Relations and Advertising, and Derek plans to go into Interior Design.

Zoee Demetro is passionate about Child Psychology because she claims she wants to help kids with mental illnesses and aspire to find healthy coping mechanisms for children, and she is going to Lock Haven University.

Sydney Cooper said she is attending Dickinson College to major in Archeology. She told us that she wants to study Archeology because she is very interested in Ancient Civilizations and wants to help uncover different historical sites.

Everyone has that one moment from high school that they just can’t forget.

Sydney Cooper told us that she was always excited for the powderpuff football games. She enjoyed playing with all her friends and seeing everyone cheering from the stands and having a good time.

Zoee Demetro admitted that she “wasn’t here for most of the year so my favorite moment was ‘prob’ senior skip day.” Some of us got into a little trouble during these four years.

Selica Dershem told us she and her friends sneaked onto the platform behind the stage in the auditorium and hid from Ms. Andrus, the journalism teacher.

Central Mountain High School has a lot of amazing teachers so it’s hard to pick a favorite, but Selica Dershem picked Herr Madenford. She said that he has always had her back and she knows that he will always give good advice. “He has influenced me to become a better person and I’m very thankful for having him.”

Dylan Carlson told us that Ms. Andrus was his favorite teacher because she is so down to earth and always listens to her students. He said that he appreciates her honesty and kindness.

Zoee Demetro said that Mrs. Brunguard was her favorite teacher. “She always treated us like a friend, not just a student.”

Sydney Cooper said that Mr. Cooper was her favorite teacher, which makes sense, since he is her Dad.

Everyone said that they were sad that this experience was over, but they are all excited to go out into the world and experience new things. All of them are excited to go to college and get a degree in what they would like to become in the future. Overall, this is a sad time, but it is also a great time because everyone gets to experience what they want and do what they have wanted to do with their life.
