State system integration moves forward

HARRISBURG - The Board of Governors of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education has voted unanimously to move ahead with combining six universities within the 14-school system. The vote came about 2:45 p.m. at the board's quarterly meeting and following hours of discussion and comment. UPMC and LHU partner for community drive-thru vaccine clinics

LOCK HAVEN – UPMC in North Central Pa. will partner with Lock Haven University, Clinton County and Keystone Central School District to host drive-thru COVID-19 vaccine clinics on Friday, June 25 and Monday, June 28 from noon to 4 p.m. at Lock Haven University’s Student Recreation Center, 550 Railroad St., Lock Haven. Both clinics are free and open to the public. The Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines will be available to community members 12-years-old and over. Central Mountain baseball team advances

WINGATE — With a 12-0 victory over Peters Township Monday, Central Mountain solidified itself as one of the top-eight teams in the state. The Wildcats’ shutout win was highlighted by a combined no-hitter and four home runs. Bellefonte Lady Raiders advance

The Bellefonte Lady Raider softball team advanced in the first round of states this afternoon. Behind star pitcher Lexi Rogers, the Lady Raiders knocked off Chartiers Valley, 4-1. Bellefonte won in spite of getting just four hits. Chartiers Valley had seven hits off Rogers in the season-ending loss.

City council appoints Alexander Di Costanzo to fill vacancy

LOCK HAVEN - After interviewing four contenders for a seat vacated by William “Bill” Mincer in May, Lock Haven City Council appointed Alexander “Alex” Di Costanzo, of Bellefonte Avenue, to fill it on Monday night. Di Costanzo, a Democrat, is running for a 4-year term on city council in the November election. He is currently running unopposed. Councilman Steve Stevenson motioned to appoint Di Costanzo as a way to give him more experience with the job before his possible election. “I’d like to see him get a head start here,” Stevenson said. ALTOONA – Aidan Major’s one-hitter, combined with Central Mountain’s ability to push runs across the plate gave the Wildcats a 10-0 victory over Hollidaysburg Tuesday in the District 6 5A title game. “We had a rough start to the year. We kept doing what we do—working hard every day—trusting the process, it’s a great group of guys,” CM coach Mike Kramer said. “We stayed with it and trusted the process.
