Bertha M. Bierly, 88, a lifelong resident of Avis, went home to be with the Lord on Jan. 2, 2025 at Jersey Shore Nursing and Rehab. She was the daughter of Bryon and Ida (Caris) Bierly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Doris Fanning; and a nephew, Gorden Fanning. Earlier in her life, “Bert” was a school crossing guard in Avis, getting children safely across busy Central Avenue. She also worked at the Avis Luncheonette.
