Replying to predator hunting

I found David Kveragas’s letter (printed in the April 3 edition) in response to my thoughts on the predator contest hunts very interesting with all the information on coyotes, rabies and raccoons.
I did not, however, approve of his remarks aimed at our state Game Commission and the hunters as the cause of these predators and the rabies they may carry. I believe both the Game Commission and hunters keep these predators under control.
I noticed that both letters The Express published on banning these contest hunts offered no alternate method of controlling the predator population. Would it help, maybe, to end these hunts if they would suggest another method of controlling the predator numbers?
Without some kind of population control they would multiply to the point there would not be enough prey to feed their numbers. They would starve or become diseased and die.
Also, how is the farmer going to protect his fields and animals from too many predators? How do we keep them off our lawns and away from our pets? I would love to hear their solutions to this problem. Until then, I see hunting them as the most humane answer.
