Bald Eagle Area boys come up shy at home against Tyrone

WINGATE — On Wednesday evening the Bald Eagle Area boys basketball team took on Tyrone in an exciting home conference matchup on senior night in Wingate.

The last time these two teams met the Golden Eagles were able to come out on top, and did so again on Wednesday in the rematch with a 56-40 win over Bald Eagle Area.

Before Wednesday evening, Bald Eagle Area was 4-11 in conference and 8-11 on the season, and Tyrone was 10-5 in conference and 13-6 on the season.

The game started out slow with both teams struggling to get the ball to the net with the Bald Eagles only scoring 9 points, and the Golden Eagles scoring 11 points all in the first quarter. By the start of the second period, things started to pick up with the Golden Eagles as Sam Crilly (16 points) was able to get the ball in the rim by sinking some shots from the paint to score five points.

“We did a good job of getting him the ball in his hands and he hit shots when we needed him to,” Tyrone coach Lucas Rhodes stated. “He did miss some shots early but he didn’t let that get to him. He kept fighting and good shooters have to shoot through misses.”

Sam Crilly wasn’t the only one to stand out in the first half, Kahale Burns (10 points) from Bald Eagle Area was able to force some critical turnovers and scoring opportunities for his fellow teammates, helping to make the deficit only four at half time with a score 22-18.

“He played well, he had a real great first half very dynamic athlete and a good leader for us,” Bald Eagle Area coach Kris Glunt commented. “I thought that we played a tremendous first half, it was only a 4-point game going into the half.”

At the start of the third quarter, Bald Eagle Area came out with stronger defense than what was shown in the first half.

“Our kids are always going to battle and get after it, told them that I was really proud of what they did tonight,” commented Glunt.

While things were starting to go Bald Eagles way, Tyrone was able to pull away with the help of Dravyn Crowell (four points) who was able to create some key turnovers.

“He actually created some turnovers and finished around the hoop tonight. We need him to play like that more regularly,” stated Rhodes.

The win moves Tyrone to 11-5 in the conference and 14-5 overall while Bald Eagle Area is 4-12 in the conference and 8-12 overall.
