Despite a career night from James Cowan that saw him score a game-high 31 points, it wasn’t enough for Bald Eagle Area boys basketball to overcome Tyrone. The Golden Eagles put together a 27-point first quarter and converted ten threes, remaining a large step ahead from start to finish as they defeated the Eagles, 75-51.

Outside of Cowan, Jayden Yeaner contributed eight points and Mason Nagle added five, the latter converting the team’s lone three on the night. Tyrone had two 20-point scorers in Ashton Emigh (23) and Eli Woomer, with Woomer hitting five threes. And Ben Walk added three triples, finishing with 15 points.

Gavin Pick was lights out from the second quarter onward, scoring a game-high 20 points, but it wasn’t enough for Bucktail to overcome Sullivan County’s balanced attack. In a rematch of last year’s District 4 Class A third-place game, nine Griffins scored – six going for six or more points, as the Bucks fell at home by a score of 58-38.

The difference was a slow start, which saw Bucktail fall behind 15-3 by the end of the first quarter. Corbin Pentz and Aiden Ditty combined for 11 points alongside Pick. And for Sullivan County, Dom Marotti (12) and Lucas King (10) posted double-figure scoring outings.

Following a tight loss to Tyrone on Monday, the Penns Valley boys got back on track Wednesday night, defeating Central, 61-40, to improve to 9-4 overall and 6-4 in Laurel Highlands play. Three Rams scored in the double figures, with Julian Battaglia leading the way with 17 points, Noah Patel right behind him with 16 and Austin Fetterolf adding 11.
