Peck gets by Smith to win 410 sprints at Williams Grove

It was a big race weekend for central Pennsylvania with PA Posse and multiple others in action.

On Friday night Justin Peck got by Ryan Smith with a late race pass and went on to win the 25-lap feature for 410 sprint cars at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday night. The victory was the third of Peck’s career at the track and was worth $5,000.

In the 25-lap event for 358 sprints, Derek Locke took the lead from Cole Young for the victory. It was Locke’s 18th career limited sprint win at the oval.

Also on Friday night at Bedford Speedway Trever Feathers started fifth in the late-model 25 lap feature. The feature had a rocky start as the initial start was recalled immediately after an infraction was called. The second attempted start was also halted quickly due to a seven-car melee in turn one.

The field was put under red and another minor melee ensued on the track. The third and final start brought Jakob Piper to the front of the field as Trever Feathers, originally having started fifth, began his climb to the front. Feathers worked his way to second place by lap seven and took off after Piper making a successful pass for the lead on lap nine.

From there on Feathers opened a sizable lead over the rest of the field. He ultimately took the checkered flag on lap 25. Feathers was followed by Shawn Shoemaker, Tyler Emory, Nathan LaSalle, and Taylor Farlling.

In the 305 sprints, Josh Spicer started at the front and maintained his lead throughout the feature as a springtime rainstorm gathered in the distance. The event ran to completion, 20 laps, all green. Spicer was followed by Jeff Weaver, Cole Dewease, Dylan Shatzer, and Ken Duke.

The semi late feature took the track as barely noticeable raindrops started to fall. Kyle Weyant jumped to an initial lead and held on for the duration of the race. During a caution on lap 10 the rain overtook the area and conditions were deemed too precarious to continue. The feature was checked on lap 10 and ruled complete as the field stood placing Weyant in victory lane followed by Garrett Keifer, Bob Jay, Ryan Sager, and Brian Weyandt

The pop-up April shower caused the event to pause before the four cylinders could take the track. As qualifying had completed for this event the line-up is set and will be run to completion at a future date.

On Saturday night at Port Royal Speedway, the regulars were all in attendance for the PA Posse 410 Sprint Series. Ryan Smith was the driver who topped all the competition and parked in Kish Bank Victory Lane at the end of the night. Some of the best national touring drivers and others from out of state were also there.

Ryan Smith was the driver who topped all the competition and parked in victory lane at the end of the night. The 69K held steady thru multiple lead changes to claim the victory and the $6,000 pay day.

“That had to be pretty entertaining,” said Smith. “I know it was from my seat. Donnie and Davey gave me an awesome car. When it’s like this, I’m the guy to beat.”

Chase Dietz would finish in the runner up spot and Troy Wagaman Jr. would round out the podium.

In super late model competition, Max Blair was the class of the field. Blair, a regular with the Late Model Dirt Series, would lead all 25 laps of the A-main event and his lead was nearly 10 seconds by the end of the race.

Port Royal Speedway will be back in action on Saturday with super late models, 305 sprint cars and limited late models.

The night will also consist of two makeup feature events from the postponed event on April 4 meaning their will be five features run at The Speed Palace that night.
