MILL HALL — Cory Stabley won his first RaceSaver sprint car feature event in only his second full season of competition. Jeffrey Weaver of Lock Haven won the 270 micro sprints and Tanner Jones won the Central PA Legends event.
Austin Greenland and Stabley started on the front row for the start of the main event. Greenland took the lead at the drop of the green flag. After the completion of lap one, Timmy Bittner of Beech Creek and Jeff Weaver Jr. of Lock Haven banged wheels as the two raced into Turn 1 battling for third. Bittner’s car suffered damage and spun forcing him to the pits ending his night early. For the restart, Greenland was leading Stabley, Weaver, Jim Pattock and Josh Beamer.
Greenland was quick on the restart and led the next several laps. Stabley got to the inside of Greenland and made the pass for the lead exiting Turn 2. Weaver and Greenland battled for second place as Stabley pulled away from the rest of the pack. Weaver managed to take the second position on lap ten and set his sights on chasing down Stabley.
As the race continued, Weaver began to close in on Stabley. On lap 19, Beamer moved into fourth and John Walp entered the top five. The leaders encountered lapped traffic and Stabley cautiously maneuvered around cars with Weaver closing quickly. Stabley held on by .141 seconds to earn the win over Weaver, Pattock, Beamer and Walp.
Pole-sitter Tyler Clowes of Winfield took the early lead of the 270 micro sprint feature. Jillian Maurer of Elysburg took the lead from Clowes on lap four. Weaver Jr. passed Maurer on lap eight and, with two laps remaining, Mac Wert took the third position. Weaver continued to lead the rest of the way to earn the victory over Clowes, Wert, JT Howart and Maurer.
Seth Kearchner and Hunter McElroy started on the front row of the Legends feature. Kearchner jumped into the lead at the drop of the green flag. Lincoln Kearchner, who started fourth, was up to second place by lap four. Jones, who started ninth, moved into the top five on lap five. The Kearchners were in a contested battle for the lead, with Lincoln leading lap five but Seth taking it back on lap later.
On lap seven, Jones moved into second place and challenged Seth Kearchner for the top spot. On lap 10 he made the pass for the lead. Colton Friese, who started 20th worked his way up through the field and emerged into the top three on lap 16. By lap 18, Friese had taken the second spot. Jones held off Friese by .949 seconds as the checkered flag waved.
Seth Kearchner, Lincoln Kearchner and Kelby Freise completed the top five.
With storms approaching the power went out and rain moved into the track canceling the remaining events. The pro stock will have double features on July 17 and the four cylinders will have double features on July 24.
The Clinton County Speedway returns Friday with the PA Posse 410 sprint car series in addition to other competition.
