Today, please remember the American heroes who died for us

During the American Revolution, an estimated 4,435 soldiers died in battle fighting for freedom from England between 1775 and 1783, according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. A few short decades later, another 2,260 U.S. soldiers died fighting in the War of 1812, which lasted until 1815. A year later, the Indian Wars began, claiming an estimated 1,000 soldiers until their end in 1898. During the Mexican War from 1846 to 1848, 1,733 battle deaths were recorded. My wife told me that, if a woman were leading our country, the response to this pandemic and efforts to slow its spread would be much better. Time to put Pennsylvanians to the test

Mandated time off appears to be coming to an end. Or is it? On the surface, there appeared to be good news last week when Gov. Tom Wolf announced intentions to start to reopen Pennsylvania. But don’t get too excited yet. His plan is methodical. It would happen in phases based on an area’s actual experience with COVID-19. We must test, test and test

Going on the offensive against COVID-19 will require knowing more about who has had the disease, perhaps without showing symptoms. To that end, new tests have been developed and are being perfected. Most seem to rely on detecting antibodies the body produces to fight and often, defeat certain illnesses. Many of us would like to know whether the coronavirus has invaded our bodies without displaying symptoms.
