She claims that we are all doing wonderfully in an economic sense because income for the bottom fifth of the population has doubled since 1990 and wealth for the bottom quarter has tripled. While that is a mostly true statement, she neglects to inform us that since 1990 the purchasing power of the dollar has dropped by about half. His candidacy for New York mayor raised valid concerns: limited experience, economically dubious proposals — rent freezes, free bus rides, city-owned grocery stores — and a polarizing democratic socialist platform that often-alienated moderates. These are legitimate grounds for skepticism. But the right of center arguments against his candidacy have been almost uniformly less critique than reckless distortion.
