BEECH CREEK — McGhee Scrap Co. caught fire Thursday night, Dec. 22.
The Beech Creek-Blanchard Fire was dispatched at 3:55 p.m. and arrived to find a large pile of cars and scrap metal on fire.
Additional resources from Clinton, Centre and Lycoming Counties were requested to assist with supplying large volumes of water. A hydrant supply was secured and a tanker shuttle was set up to truck in additional water.
Beech Creek-Blanchard Fire Company Chief Jim Watson said that the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time, though is under investigation.
“The only way we got it out was with lots of water and a machine dragging the pile apart,” said Watson.
The fire was marked under control at 5:57 p.m., approximately two hours after dispatch. There were no injuries reported as a result of the fire.
Robert McGhee, of McGhee Scrap Co., commented on a post by the Clinton County Fire Wire saying, “Thank you to everyone that responded to the fire. Your extremely fast response and great team work had the fire completely under control in two hours from the time of the 911 call.”
According to McGhee’s comment, the fire was mainly in a miscellaneous pile of tin, light iron and household appliances.
