BE Twp. supers hear Wawa update

MILL HALL — The Bald Eagle Township Board of Supervisors began this month’s meeting with a moment of silence for a few locals who recently passed.

“We have lost three very good teachers, good men and very good coaches that gave their lives to bettering our community and the students in it,” said Chairman Steve Tasseli.

Thomas Shafer, Michael Packer and Robert Weller were all mentioned by Tasselli, praised for their dedication and given a moment of silence.

The supervisors have finally gotten an update on the much-anticipated Wawa convenience store.

The convenience store will be located at Creekside Restaurant — formerly Aungst Restaurant — located just off of Eagle Valley Road, facing the intersection of North Water Street.

During Monday’s meeting, township Secretary Marissa Morgan showed the supervisors the plan for a traffic study.

“The township needs to approve them prior to PennDOT reviewing them. The township needs to (give an) okay,” she said.

“They’ve had huge studies. It was probably some of the delay that it has taken this long. It’s a standard protocol,” said Tasselli.

The supervisors unanimously approved the plans.

Bids were opened for scheduled 2025 road projects. The township received five bids total — but only four were valid bids. HRI submitted a bid with no amount listed.

The bids they received included:

— Glenn O. Hawbaker: $210,702

— HRI: No amount listed, bid was incomplete

— Big Rock Paving: $274,672.90

— Dave Gutelius Excavating, Inc.: $262,661.75

— Wyde Excavation and Hauling: $241,222

The supervisors unanimously approved the lowest bidder, Glenn O. Hawbaker, but will be checking over the bids once more to ensure everything “lines up.”

The township has also announced their annual donations. The 12 organizations received donations for 2025: Beech Creek-Blanchard Fire Company, CleanScapes, Clinton County SPCA, Goodwill Hose Co., Goodwill Hose Ambulance Association, Lamar Township Volunteer Fire Company, Lock Haven Citizens Hose Co., Lock Haven EMS Association, Mill Hall Volunteer Fire Co., Millbrook Playhouse, Ross Library and The Salvation Army. These donations total around $20,000.

In other news:

— The township will be looking into a state funded retirement plan for their employees in the near future.

— The Peterbilt that was discussed last month had $2,400 worth of work done and will now pass inspection.

— The mulch date for 2025 will be on a Saturday to be determined by the staff. It will be announced in the newspaper.

Starting at $3.69/week.
