Ex-Susque-View official gets probation, fined $10K in kickback scheme

WILLIAMSPORT — The former workers’ compensation director at a Clinton County nursing home has been placed on two years’ probation and fined $10,000 for conspiring to steal more than $500,000 through a kickback scheme that involved a physician. Paul D. Polen, 72, of Lock Haven, also must forfeit $628,450, be on home confinement for six months, and participate in a mental health treatment program. U.S. Middle District Judge Mathew W. Snow Shoe man dies after being struck by vehicle

SNOW SHOE — Chief Deputy Coroner John D. Kubalak has confirmed the death of Thomas Edward Hipple, 73, of Snow Shoe, following a pedestrian accident Monday morning. The incident remains under investigation by Pennsylvania State Police. The Centre County Coroner’s Office is working closely with PSP and emergency responders, according to a press release. Snow Shoe Ambulance Station 29, Snow Shoe Fire Company and Pine Glen Fire Company all assisted at the scene of the accident, which was unspecified. Accident leads to citation HOWARD — Ethan Baker, 35, of Lock Haven, was cited after his 2005 Hyundai Elantra struck the rear of another vehicle on July 30 while attempting to pass it as it was turning, according to state police at Rockview. The crash caused disabling damage to Baker’s car. A passenger in the other vehicle sustained a bruise but declined medical treatment. Baker was charged with failure to drive on the right side of the roadway, police said. MILESBURG — After an extensive stand off involving a heavy police presence in Milesburg Borough, one man was arrested and charged after allegedly aiming a pistol at a woman’s head on Tuesday evening. According to court documents, Joshua L. Resides, 41, of Boggs Township, pointed a weapon at her at about 2 p.m. Tuesday as she gathered her property from a home in the 200 block of Sparrow Drive.
