As it becomes closer to the end of the school year, it is becoming even closer to the end of spring sports.

Every sport designates a home game to honor the seniors on the team. The small ceremony is usually before the game and is just a nice acknowledgment telling the fans what their plans are after high school, favorite memory while being on the team, some words to the teams, and special thanks.

On May 2, the Central Mountain Baseball team celebrated their seniors, Ashton Probst, Cayde Mccloskey, Zack Weaver, and Aaron Miller.

The team worked hard and pulled a 5-2 win against Williamsport. While talking with Zack Weaver, we asked him about his favorite memory and some words for his team.

“My favorite memory from this year is going thirteen innings with Selinsgrove,” he said.

His words for his team are “focus on the next pitch, bad plays happen, it’s how you react and respond that determines the game.”

On May 2, the Central Mountain Boys Tennis Team celebrated their seniors, Ryan Pentz, Leisher Gugino, Owen Persun, Jackson Walker, Ethan Simmons, Lucas Porter, and Ethan Hall. The team went against Williamsport area. Their hard work earned them a 4-1 win.

When was asked about a favorite memory while on the team, someone replied, “sitting on the bus and accidentally elbowing Nick Piergalini in the face and letting him play Brawl Stars for the rest of the ride because I felt bad.”

A message to their teammates is “do not chug water before you play a set.”

On May 10, Central Mountain’s Track and Field celebrated their seniors, Sofia Hamilton, Sam Johnson, Ashley Yost, Mia Kopysciansky, Anton Stratts, Hailey Jarrett, Zachary Beyer, Madison Bair, Kobe Mills, Ashly Rich, Brett Gerlach, Alyssa VanGorder, Gianna Dressler, Michael Cashwell, Kati Kwiatek, Ben Streator, Emily Short, and Rylie Swortwood.

Gianna is one of the seniors soon to be graduating. Her favorite memory of being on the track team is breaking a hammock and fence with Alyssa VanGorder at the Altoona District meet. Her advice to her teammates, “to try your best and run fast.”

The meet resulted in a win for the girls over Mifflinburg, but a loss to Shikellamy. Sadly, the boys could not pull through and lost to both teams.

On May 17, the Central Mountain Lady Wildcat Softball team will celebrate their seniors, Caitlyn Watson and Maddie Toner.

The team will play Clearfield. After speaking to the seniors, Maddie Toner’s favorite memory is getting to spend time with her team and working hard with them at practice to get better everyday.

Her message to her teammates, “I want to wish them the best of luck next year and hope they do good.”

Caitlyn Watson’s favorite memory is beating Bellefonte earlier in the season. Her message to her teammates is “always play to win but don’t let the fear of losing stop you from having fun.”

Senior nights are always filled with a roller coaster of emotions. They are happy celebrations and sentimental because they are beginning the end of their high school sports careers. Good luck to all seniors graduating and moving on from high school!
