SPRING MILLS – Pure energy.
Monday night, the Penns Valley girls basketball team came out with massive source of energy in their contest against visiting Laurel Highlands foe Huntingdon. After a dominant 23-7 first quarter, the Lady Rams never looked back as they went on to defeat the feisty Bearcats, 67-47.
The Bearcats’ Raelynn Fisher, who just missed out on a double-double, scored eight points and 12 rebounds in the loss. Teammate Kiayah Walters led the way with 14.
From an opportunistic defense, to a high tempo offense that produced numerous transition points, as well of its share of triples in the victory, the Rams delivered a balanced masterclass to get back on track. With the win, Penns Valley (8-7) got back above .500 while closing out a three-game losing streak.
Leading the way offensively for Penns Valley was Jordan Johnson, who posted a game-high 18 points while teammate Paige Johnson added 17 points to the mix. Rounding out the high scorers for the Rams was Elle Dinges with 13 points.

“It was a good team win today. It was a great effort all the way around. We talked about that in the pregame. We are just getting back to having fun but also playing together,” said Penns Valley coach Terrence Green. “Last week was tough for us. We had some tough losses. Some close ones. So we just want to get back and play together and that’s what we did tonight and it showed.”
Penns Valley opened fast in the opening period.
After forcing a turnover on their first possession, the Rams got the game off and running as Paige Johnson finished off the end of a breakaway with an easy layup.
The Bearcats got on the board after an offensive board and putback by Fisher, who had eight first-half rebounds.
Elle Dinges made it a 3-2 contest as she hit a free throw.

Ellie Romig and Jordan Johnson added two consecutive transition baskets to up Penns Valley’s lead to 11-5, with those scores causing Huntingdon to call a time out. However, the Rams were just warming up as they made the best of the break to rev up their engines one more time.
The result would be a 12-2 run in the final 3:18 to give Penns Valley a comfortable 23-7 advantage.
Things continued to roll the Rams way in the second as well, as they would post 19 points while holding the Bearcats to just 12 as the two teams went into the intermission with the Rams holding a comfortable 42-19 advantage.
