MILL HALL — Nittany Valley Holistic Health, located at 7133 Nittany Valley Drive, Mill Hall, is looking to offer a unique space for business owners, while also creating a community space for those interested in alternative health options outside of strictly traditional medical care.

The idea to create this space came to fruition between a partnership with Dr. Jason Madigan — owner of Sport and Spine Chiropractic Rehab — and Dr. Amy Downes, owner of Wild Sunflower Solutions.

Madigan said he and Downes have very similar philosophies and ideas about how to take care of the mind, body and soul which led to the partnership.

“We both would like to have a more holistic approach to health that isn’t common for this area,” he said. “We can help bring people and individuals together and give them these options outside of just regular medical practices.”

He noted, however, neither of them turn a blind eye to the importance of science-based medicine. Instead, they often work hand-in-hand with local practitioners to ensure patients are receiving the best care for them.

Downes explained she and Madigan had considered the idea for years, but couldn’t find the right space for it.

“We’d been looking for a couple of years… we walked in here and got a really good feeling,” she said.

Nittany Valley Holistic Health is located in a former doctor’s office just outside of Mill Hall and went through drastic changes to create the welcoming space it is now.

According to Business and Community Relations Manager Rona L. Houser, she, Downes, Madigan and his wife, Kelly, buckled down for months to rehabilitate the space.

“We did a complete remodel of the building… repainted, added new countertops, flooring,” Houser said.

Houser explained Nittany Valley Health is meant to house a variety of holistic-related businesses — not just Madigan and Downes’ practices.

“Our vision is to get all these places filled so we’re a one-stop-shop for all your holistic needs,” she said.

Downes noted the space is welcome to all individuals.

“We’re the kind of people that we accept and love all. We want to support them whether they’re on a physical or mental health recovery,” she said. “It’s about caring for each other and the community.”

The business currently has about seven total rental spaces — each a private room with about 100 square feet to utilize.

LAURA JAMESON/THE EXPRESS Nittany Valley Holistic Health’s check-in area features a shop that includes holistic products made by local vendors.

Houser explained many of the rooms were previously exam rooms or filing spaces.

Nittany Valley Holistic Health includes these spaces — with some already rented out — a lounge area for customers to wait for appointments; a kids’s area at the front and a small shop at the main desk which offers a variety of holistic products. Houser noted those who sell holistic products, but do not have a brick and mortar location, can inquire about placing their items in the shop area.

While walking through the space, Houser noted Nittany Valley Holistic Health is hoping to add mental health care — something that isn’t common to the area — among other practices over time.

The space also features a conference room where group therapies or other activities can take place.

Houser said individuals looking for a temporary meeting space could even rent out these open areas — not just practitioners who rent rooms.

Currently, Nittany Valley Holistic Health — which held a soft opening in early April — has four practitioners on-site.

This includes Madigan’s Sport and Spine Chiropractic Rehabilitation. His practice offers relief from low back pain, neck pain, headaches and other conditions through individualized therapeutic rehabilitation plans, including the use of Deep Tissue Laser Therapy.

He often works closely with local athletes both at the high school and college levels and beyond.

Madigan’s rehabilitation assistant, Andrew Petruzzi, also has his own practice out of the facility — Petruzzi Performance — which offers various personal training mostly related to sports performance.

Madigan noted Petruzzi is often able to pick up with patients once they leave his care at Sport and Spine.

Downes’s practice — Wild Sunflower Solutions — offers life coaching.

Downes said it in particular is “focused on helping people figure out what is keeping them from achieving their goals and removing those barriers.”

She explained these barriers can be anything small and large.

She is currently booking appointments for mid-June, offering individual appointments or packages along with potential group therapies for those who operate better outside of a one-on-one setting.

Other practices located in Nittany Valley Holistic Health include Opal Sky Massage, owned by Katie Warren; and Sarah Haley, LMT – a licensed massage therapist; and Chelsea Miller with Capsule Aesthetic Medicine.

Those interested in booking an appointment with any of the current practitioners may do so by calling Kelly at 570-858-5645, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Though some practitioners’ hours may vary.

Those interested in renting a space can contact Houser at the same number or email rhouser@nittanyvalleyhh.com.

Houser noted the facility is planning a two-day grand opening on May 2 and 3.

On May 2, the open house will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and May 3 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Twisted Whisk Catering will have their food truck on site and the Madigans along with Houser and Downes will offer tours of the facility on both days.

On Saturday, May 3, a ribbon cutting with the Clinton County Economic Partnership is planned for 10:30 a.m.

Houser said, outside of the practices located inside the facility, Nittany Valley Holistic Health is looking to utilize its outdoor space in the future as well. This includes a First Friday Food Truck and Farmers Market event from May to October — excluding July.

“We have such a big parking lot out back and we want to be able to use it and draw people to the area,” Houser said.

The event will feature food trucks, local produce vendors and other activities.

Outside of these special events, Houser said Nittany Valley Holistic Health hopes to potentially host outdoor yoga and other activities throughout the warmer months.
