Serving the community: 7 Heaven Mart opens in Flemington

FLEMINGTON — A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Friday afternoon at Flemington’s newest business, 7 Heaven Mart, located at 300 High Street.

The new owners, Hashim Sajjad and his wife Amber Hashim, have been hard at work renovating the interior of the building and stocking the shelves with all of your snack needs. They worked to make the business bright and welcoming.

The idea for the business came during a somewhat unexpected detour into town, according to Hashim.

“It was a coincidence. We don’t have a good Pizza Hut in New York so my Dad and I took an exit from 220 and ended up here. On my way I saw this place was going out of business,” he said, taking the necessary steps to purchase the building as soon as he was able.

“I always loved customer service jobs, and I think a convenience store is something where you get customers in and out all the time. I feel more alive around people, and that’s why I chose to do business in a community where people know how to live their lives,” said Hashim.

The business has a wide array of chips, candy, bottled/canned drinks, coffee and cigarettes.

Eventually, Hashim has plans to open a kitchen as well to offer more food options such as hoagies, cheesesteaks and more to customers.

With a kitchen open to viewing from all sides, customers can be assured that their food is made in a clean environment right in front of their eyes.

“We will offer the best prices in town, and we will give free delivery to people who cannot drive. We will try to do our best for this town. We’re not here to make money, we’re here to serve the local people,” said Hashim.

Clinton County Commissioners Angela Harding and Jim Russo were both in attendance. Harding spoke on behalf of the commissioners to wish Hashim and Amber their best.

“Thank you for your investment in our community. I always tell people when they start a business it’s a risk, and you’ve taken a risk right here in our county. We really appreciate it,” she said.

The ceremony was attended by many supporters — between friends and members of the local government as well as representatives from Stephanie Borowicz and Cris Dush’s office.

“I did not expect to get this much love from (everyone.) You are making this whole day exciting to take time out for me. I will never forget what you all are doing for me today. It’s something that will always stay in my heart, and I will tell my children and their children how I was welcomed in Flemington Borough, how I started this business and how each of you contributed your love and support,” Hashim said.

Amber echoed his statements, thanking everyone for attending the event.

“(Thank you) for welcoming us into this community,” she said.
