Airport Road closed for next two months
BELLEFONTE — A detour around Airport Road in Bellefonte will be in place for at least the next 60 days to accommodate a project to realign its intersection with Governor’s Park Road and install a traffic signal at its intersection with Route 550 (Zion Road/E. Bishop Street).
Recently announced by PennDOT, the closure will allow the Bellefonte Area School District to complete work supporting access to the district’s new elementary school.
As of Monday, Airport Road is closed to through traffic between Route 550 and Governor’s Park Road. Residents, however, will retain access to their driveways.
A detour using Routes 550 and 64 will remain in place until the project is completed, according to PennDOT. The agency added that a temporary roadway will connect Governor’s Park Road with the eastern end of Airport Road for the duration of construction.
PennDOT anticipates the detour will remain in place for 60 days but noted construction schedules are subject to change due to weather and other unforeseen circumstances.
