Bear enters road, causes crash
LAMAR — No injuries were reported in a one-vehicle crash involving a bear along Interstate 80 East in Lamar Township on March 27, state police at Lamar said.
At 8:45 p.m., Joshua P. Gosselin, 20, of Effort, Pa., was traveling in the right lane when the bear entered the roadway, striking his 2009 Buick Lucerne, on the front passenger side, police said.
Gosselin’s vehicle continued for about 0.1 of a mile before coming to a stop on the south berm, police said.
The bear was later found deceased on the south side of the roadway, police said.
No charges were filed and police were assisted on the scene by Tresslers Towing.
Driver falls asleep
LOGANTON — The driver of a 2019 Ford Transit fell asleep at the wheel on March 13, causing a one vehicle crash along Interstate 80 East in Greene Township, state police at Lamar said.
At 5:17 a.m., Jackson T. Willis, 49, of Naples, was traveling in the area of mile marker 193 when he fell asleep, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway on the south berm and continue down an embankment, striking a tree, police said.
The vehicle sustained disabling damage and Willis, who wore his seatbelt, suffered suspected minor injuries but refused medical treatment, police said.
Police were assisted on the scene by Goodwill Hose EMS and Bressler’s Towing.
Retail theft
MILL HALL — A 35-year-old Lock Haven woman was cited for retail theft after an incident in Walmart along Hogan Boulevard in Mill Hall, state police at Lamar said.
According to police, at 7:37 p.m. on Feb. 18, troopers were called to the store for reports of a retail theft that occurred on a previous date. Through an investigation it was determined that Brooke Wagner allegedly stole a pair of black and white leggings, valued at $7.98, and a pair of blue leggings, valued at $8.98, from the store, police said.
Wagner was charged with retail theft and receiving stolen property through District Judge Heidi Wright’s office.
Wagner also was cited for similar charges in a separate incident filed by PSP Lamar.
According to the release, Wagner is accused of stealing Hefty shrink pack bags, valued at $19.97, police said.
Charges for this incident were filed through Wright’s office.
DUI arrest
WOOLRICH — A call regarding an erratic person led to a driving under the influence arrest in Dunnstable Township on Feb. 13, according to state police at Lamar.
Troopers were called to the 200 block of Little Plum Run Road at 4:24 p.m. for reports of a person acting erratically outside of a 2024 Ram 2500, police said.
While speaking with the person, Dillyn Briggs, 21, of Watsontown, troopers noted alcohol containers and the smell of alcohol on his person, police said.
Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs) were administered and Briggs was then placed under arrest for driving under the influence, police said.
Charges were filed through District Judge Keith Kibler’s office.
DUI alleged
CASTANEA — A 62-year-old Lock Haven woman was placed under arrest for driving under the influence following a traffic stop along state Route 220 in Castanea Township on March 1, state police at Lamar said.
The stop took place near mile marker 111 at 2:05 a.m. in which the woman, name not listed, was stopped for multiple traffic violations, police said.
During the course of the investigation, several indicators of impairment were observed and she was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI, police said.
Charges are pending the result of a blood test.
One vehicle crash
RAUCHTOWN — The driver of a 2003 Subaru Forester suffered possible injury following a one-vehicle crash along state Route 880 in Crawford Township on March 14, state police at Lamar said.
At 7:15 a.m., Douglas L. Guthrie, 31, of Jersey Shore, was traveling south on the roadway when he lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a left curve in the roadway, police said.
The vehicle left the road on the west side, striking an embankment and a pole before coming back onto the roadway and rolling over onto its roof, police said.
The vehicle came to a stop on its roof off the eastern side of the roadway after striking a guide rail, police said.
Guthrie was transported from the scene by Jersey Shore EMS to Geisinger Jersey Shore for possible injuries, police said.
Police were assisted on the scene by Nippenose Valley Fire Co.
Teen arrested for DUI
LOCK HAVEN — A 19-year-old State College man could face DUI charges following a traffic stop along East Water Street on March 8, state police at Lamar said.
At 1:49 a.m., police conducted the stop on a 2010 Honda Civic and observed the driver, whose name was not listed, driving under the influence, police said.
Charges are pending toxicology reports, police said.
Two cited for drug possession
AVIS — Two area men were cited for drug possession and, through an investigation, were placed under arrest for active warrants following a traffic stop along state Route 220 in Pine Creek Township, state police at Lamar said.
On March 20 at 10:41 p.m., a traffic stop was conducted on a 2013 Ford F-150XLT, police said.
During an investigation it was found the driver and passenger, Steven Barner, 35, of Lock Haven, and Christopher Toal, 34, of Mill Hall, had active warrants, police said.
During the arrest, both were found to be in possession of controlled substances, police said.
Burglary
MILL HALL — A 49-year-old Mill Hall woman reported a suspected burglary along Fishing Creek Road, Porter Township, state police at Lamar said.
The alleged burglary took place between 7 a.m. on March 10 and 10 a.m. March 13 and saw an unknown suspect enter the residence through the front door and stole various items, police said.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact PSP Lamar at 570-726-6000.
DUI charges filed
LOCK HAVEN — A 33-year-old Lock Haven man was cited for driving under the influence of methamphetamine following a traffic stop along South Henderson Street, Lock Haven, on Jan. 30, state police at Lamar said.
At 11:39 p.m., troopers conducted a traffic stop on a 2008 Suzuki SX4, driven by Shane Farley, who was determined to be under the influence of methamphetamine, police said.
Charges were filed through District Judge Keith Kibler’s office.
DUI alleged
BEECH CREEK — An investigation continues into an alleged driving under the influence incident that occurred on March 14, state police at Lamar said.
At 1:41 a.m., troopers initiated a traffic stop along Grahams Lane, Beech Creek Township, involving a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu, police said.
During the stop, it was determined the driver, a 66-year-old Beech Creek woman, was under the influence of alcohol. She was taken into custody with charges pending chemical testing, police said.
Vehicle drives through
car wash doors
MILL HALL — The driver of a 2017 Buick Envision suffered possible injuries after crashing their vehicle into the doors of a carwash along Hogan Boulevard, Bald Eagle Township, on March 10, state police at Lamar said.
At 9:13 a.m., Carl H. Wolgemuth, 91, of State College, was attempting to put his vehicle in reverse in the Lazerwash parking area, when he accidentally drove forward, striking a closed door of the car wash, police said.
The Buick continued through the carwash and struck another closed door, then traveling north, crossing all travel lanes of the boulevard before striking an embankment in the M&T Bank parking lot, police said.
The driver was transported to UPMC Lock Haven Emergency Room by Goodwill Hose EMS for possible injuries. Both the driver and passenger were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash, police said.
Police were assisted on the scene by Martin Motors and EMS.
