Renovo residents spread Christmas cheer virtually this season
RENOVO — Just a few weeks removed from making sure that veterans were honored during Veterans Day — when area residents went online to show their un-wavering support of those that are serving and have served in the military. In large part those same tech savvy people introduced “Christmas Time” to again connect western Clinton County residents over the holidays.
With special appearances throughout the 37 minute tribute to the holidays, the professional style sentimental video has numerous appearances from people with roots to the Renovo area from as far away as veterans currently serving in South Korea to those that have moved and are raising families as far away as Alaska.
Rich Grenell came up with the idea of the video and the immediate acceptance of what a great idea it was.
“Christmas Time is a community video, a compilation of the various meanings of Christmas. From the secular to the sacred, members of the Renovo Community set out to spread a little community cheer,” said Trish Wilson, one of the members of the group that helped to make it a reality. “In the midst of a Pandemic, we have our memories to keep us warm through the holidays. Christmas is about kindness, giving, family and the birth of Jesus Christ.”
“This Christmas may be overshadowed by the pandemic, but it cannot destroy our spirit,” Wilson continued. “Find your Christmas spirit as we share our Christmas Gift with all of you. Merry Christmas and a Happy New! The locals were at it again, joining forces to produce a video the community of Renovo and friends and family around the world could enjoy this holiday season.”
Wilson, along with Grenell, Mary George Rhine, Martha Sykes and Rich Wykoff combined their talents to produce the video. The video includes poetry, a visit from Santa, a Special News Report, and a reading of “The Night Before Christmas,” by Miss Bucktail, Angela Intallura. Greetings to loved ones from outside of our community followed with Courtney Gardner Billings, singing “I’ll Be Home For Christmas,” accompanied by her husband, Aaron on guitar from South Korea.
The video includes beautiful displays of Christmas decorations around the community. Local ministers offer their greetings with What Christmas Means To Me.
Even technical support was provided by former Bucktail teacher Robert Varholak. Just as smiles are undoubtly brought to viewers faces to see Renovo natives in their out of area homes, “Mr. V’s” presence will certainly be appreciated by his former students that loved his time spent at Bucktail. Reverend Godissart, Visioning Pastor First United Methodist Church, Hollidaysburg, PA; Reverend John C. Baney, Pastor First United Methodist Church Renovo, North Bend, and Hyner; Youth Minister, Rebecca Melzer from the Blanchard Church of Christ, present sermons on “What Christmas Means To Me” for the video. Erica Morton Dorman, and Courtney Gardner Billings, along with the Renovo Community Choir add to the spirit of the holidays with their angelic voices in renditions of “Breath of Heaven” and “Mary Did You Know.”
The video can easily be viewed on YouTube by searching “Christmas Time.” The video had over 500 views on Saturday, just three days after its release.
