ANTES FORT — A 20-year-old Jersey Shore man was killed Tuesday night in a violent two-vehicle collision on Route 44, according to state police.
Driving a 2005 Volkswagen hatchback, Milan Dodson was killed after he lost control of his car as he was traveling south on the two-lane road about 7:30 p.m., police said.
Dodson was attempting to pass other vehicles, using the northbound lane, police were told. He maneuvered back in the southbound lane upon seeing a northbound state Department of Conservation Natural Resources pickup truck approaching, witnesses told police.
However, as he was returning to his lane, Dodson lost control of his car, which slid counterclockwise back into the northbound lane, directly into the path of the truck, resulting in the collision, police said.
The truck, driven by Arliss Rhinehart, 36, of Waterville, overturned and landed on its driver’s side, blocking both lanes, police said.
The collision caused the hatchback to spin clockwise, resulting in it landing along the shoulder of the northbound lane, police said. Dodson, who was not wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected from his car, was rushed to UPMC Williamsport, where he died of his injuries, police said.
Dodson was pronounced dead in the emergency room at 8:20 p.m., according to the Lycoming County Coroner Charles E. Kiessling Jr.
Firefighters from Antes Fort, Nippenose Valley and Jersey Shore responded along with Jersey Shore Area EMS.
Rhinehart, who managed to climb out of the truck on his own, was treated at Geisinger Jersey Shore Hospital.
