Six children, driver sustain minor injuries in crash on I-80
BELLEFONTE — Six children and one adult from a school for autistic students were hospitalized following a school van crash on Interstate 80, near the Bellefonte exit in Centre County, according to state police at Rockview.
The injuries of those on the school van were reportedly minor, but they were transported to Mount Nittany Medical Center out of an abundance of caution.
State police reported that the crash occurred when the school van, a 2023 RAM 2500, failed to notice a crash truck stopped in the left lane directing traffic to the right. The van, traveling in the left lane of the interstate, collided with the truck, causing disabling damage to the front driver’s side.
The bus was contracted by the New Story School in State College, which provides emotional and autistic support for students in grades K-12.
Careless driving charges are pending investigation of the bus driver. The van was towed from the scene by Rich’s Towing.
