Chicago area man pleads guilty to drug trafficking on I-80

Mujahid Hammam

LOCK HAVEN — District Attorney Dave Strouse announced Tuesday that Mujahid Hammam, 23, of Bridgeview, Illinois, entered a no contest plea to possession with intent to deliver, an ungraded felony.

According to a release via Crimewatch, Hammam entered the plea before President Judge Craig P. Miller.

Hammam was charged after State Police at Lamar made a traffic stop of Hammam’s vehicle on Feb. 18 for traffic code violations, according to the release.

Upon approaching the vehicle, Trooper Matthew Mills noticed a strong odor of marijuana at the window. After engaging a drug K9, Mills obtained a search warrant for the vehicle, which included two additional passengers other than Hammam, the release said.

Mills then located over 16 pounds of vacuum sealed marijuana, and 972 other additional items containing marijuana or THC, including THC vape cartridges in bulk packaging and other bulk THC products, the release said.

Police also discovered drug sale ledgers in the vehicle along with luggage with airline baggage tags bearing Hammam’s name, the release said.

Police charged all three occupants of the car, which was traveling from New York City to Chicago, according to the passengers, the release said.

Sentencing will be held next month.
